Mary J. Blige received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 BET Awards and Rihanna did the honors.  Watch RiRi crown the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, plus her epic performance with Lil Kim and Method Man inside….

The BET Awards was full of surprises last night, especially when it was announced that Rihanna would be in the mix. The Fenty Beauty honcho was tapped to present singing legend Mary J. Blige with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in LA last night.

Give us everything Rih!
The Bajan beauty stepped out on stage in head-to-toe leather, rocking a custom FENTY ensemble, which she coordinated with a fanny pack, Neil Lane necklaces, a diamond studded cross pendant from Loree Rodkin, and Manolo Blahnik sandals. It seems RiRI channeled her inner MJB as her ‘fit def gave off vibes of the legendary singer’s signature style.
Rih’s hair color and style were on point as well.  Per usual.
“On behalf of all the women who came after you like myself, thank you for being you,” Rihanna said as she praised the Hip Hop/R&B Queen. “So we could feel comfortable with being ourselves.”
“And then there are the awards and the accolades. And making history as the first person ever nominated for an Oscar in an acting and music category in the same year. Happy Mary. Sad Mary. Mad Mary. No more drama Mary. Dancing Mary. We’re here for all of it.”
Facts.

MJB went down a laundry list of names to thank – people who have been by her side throughout her illustrious career. In her speech, MJB opened up about how she’s been able to stay relevant in the game for so long and her purpose in life.
“People always ask, how do I sustain and stay relevant in this industry? It’s because, although I am a leader, a queen, and a living legend. … I’m a servant as well and I’m here to serve,” she said. “Being a servant is not always glamorous or popular but it’s the job and the assignment that I was given. It’s because in order to be an authority, I had to learn how to come under authority because when the glory is placed on me I give it back to God immediately. This journey journey has always been bigger than me and my mission is not only just to survive right now, it’s to thrive and continue to make history while I do it.”

After accepting her award…

MJB changed into a custom Duckie Confetti outfit paired with Jennifer Le thigh high boots to pay tribute to her damn self! No one can rock a Mary J. Blige like the queen herself.

The Queen brought out her homie/longtime collaborator Lil Kim to perform their hit track, “I Can Love You.”  Not sure about y’all but we lost our ISH when this happened.

As she continued her medley, MJB was joined on stage by fine a** Method Man to perform their throwback classic, “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By.” Yassss!
