Before she takes over the big screen in Cats, Jennifer Hudson is giving us a taste of how she’s slaying this upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect. Watch the first trailer inside!

In case you forgot, Jennifer Hudson was the actress that Aretha Franklin personally tapped to portray her, and she does not disappoint in this small glimpse of her giving us VOICE.
The upcoming biopic of legend Aretha Franklin whom we lost over a year ago, Respect, follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom.
The movie is only halfway done being shot, but the trailer is already letting us know they did what they had to do to give Aretha all the respect she deserves.
Director Liesl Tommy revealed today:
I’m half way through shooting this baby. I can’t wait for y’all to see her when she’s done. We’re all pouring our hearts and souls into telling the Queens story!
Jennifer stars alongside Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans (pictured above in a kissing scene), Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner, Tate Donovan, and Mary J. Blige. Heather Headley is also lending her voice in the film.
Respect hits theaters October 9th, 2020!
