Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon team up in Hulu’s upcoming miniseries based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 novel, “Little Fires Everywhere.” Watch the trailer inside…
After starring and producing in Netflix’s “American Son,” Kerry Washington is taking her talents to another streaming giant.
The Golden Globe nominated actress has teamed up with Reese Witherspoon for a Hulu mini-series based on Celeste Ng’s novel, “Little Fires Everywhere.” And they’re def heating ish up.
In “Little Fires Everywhere,” Reese will play Elena Richardson, the matriarch of a wealthy family who decides to rent out a portion of her home to a homeless artist/mother named Mia Warren, played by Kerry, and her daughter. Mia is approached by Elena with an opportunity to be a “house helper” aka maid. She seemingly accepts and viewers see how their relationship unfolds, which results in the Richardson’s family home going up in flames – while Elena was inside. Yikes.
“A good mother makes good choices,” Elena tells Mia in the trailer, to which Mia responds, “You didn’t make good choices! You had good choices.”
The collaboration was one that has been in the works for a “long time.”
“My first instinct is who’s actually gonna show up and do the work? Because this is a lot of work,” Reese told CNN. “[Kerry] brings a grace to it, an intellectual aspect to it, and she deepens the conversation. And I knew that I wanted to go on this journey with her, especially because she read it so quickly and responded so quickly to the role.”
Both Kerry and Reese (above at the 2020 Winter TCA held at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena) are also executive producers on the show, which was created by Liz Tigelaar. “Little Fires Everywhere” also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Joshua Jackson, Jade Pettyjohn, Jordan Elsass, Gavin Lewis, Megan Stott and Lexi Underwood. Celeste Ng is also a producer of the mini-series.
